About the Texas CR-3 crash report

When a law enforcement officer investigates a crash in Texas, they complete a Texas Peace Officer's Crash Report (form CR-3) and submit it to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). TxDOT stores it in the Crash Records Information System (CRIS) and sells copies through its Crash Report Online Purchase System.

Who can get the full report

Texas Transportation Code §550.065 limits unredacted copies to people with a direct interest. That includes people involved in the crash and their representatives, owners of damaged vehicles or property, insurers, employers, parents or guardians of a driver involved, news media and government agencies. Anyone else gets a redacted copy with personal information removed. See Transportation Code Chapter 550 explained.
